Since Kellen was down for the count this week, I had an excessive amount of time on my hands. So, when I was not cleaning up bodily fluids or trying to convince Kellen to drink--for fear of dehydration, I've been reading about parenting and spending special one-on-one time with my youngest.
On a side note, I am convinced that Kellen has salmonella. He has been extremely sick all week. It started Monday morning and progressively got worse. Today was the first day that he has had small amounts of relief from stomach cramps, didn't vomit, and even colored for a few minutes. He has been miserable!! I'm hopeful that tomorrow he will be able to eat a little bit and start returning to some normal activities. Poor guy!!
So, while stuck at home this week I got out some parenting books to pass the time. I reread Baby Wise II in preparation for the next few months with Anna. Immediate wisdom taken from the book: figure out how to get her to stop blowing raspberries while eating. It was cute at first, but not any more. :)
I also read "Potty Training Wise". I didn't own it before I started potty training Kellen, but we may be back to square one once he gets better. I don't like everything in this book, but it made me wonder why no one has ever mentioned that there is such a thing as cotton training pants. Ha! Seems dumb now, but I just put Kellen in underwear because I didn't know there was any other option. Training pants would have eliminated a lot of messes (and frustration on my part).
"Toddler Wise" was next on the list and I highly recommend the chapter about scheduling your toddler's day. I created a daily schedule for the kids based on this chapter that I'm excited to start when everyone is healthy. My children are in for a rude awakening because the start time to my daily schedule is 7:00 am . . . NOT 5:30 or 6:00! Kellen can read in his bed until 7 and Anna can hang out (or scream if she so chooses) in her crib. (Would someone please call me next week at 5:30 and remind me that she is not going to starve to death if she doesn't receive nourishment til 7?) I'm pretty sure that if I stick to my guns, the kids will adjust and start sleeping a little more. There is no logical reason that this house has to be awake before the sun!
Next on the list is "Don't Make Me Count to Three!" by Ginger Plowman. I pray that I will NOT have time to read it tomorrow because I will be playing with both my children!!

Great... you just added to my list of books to read and I already had three on there :)
Hope Kellen is better today. I know it's miserable watching your kids be sick and not being able to help!
Good to know! I read BabyWise and it helped a lot but I've never read the others.
I hope Kellen feels better very soon!
It's been awhile since I read Toddlerwise, but I remember it had some good stuff to say. Pottywise just made me mad. I did everything they said, and they promised it would work in days, and it took months.
Now, as for "Don't Make Me Count To Three," it is my favorite. It's a yearly must-read!
P.S. Hope Kellen is all better soon! No fun!!
Poor Kellen! I really hope today was better.
I thought Toddlerwise was really helpful too, although, even my schedule loving personality can't bring myself to do that detailed of a daily schedule! Let me know how yours goes. Can't wait to hang out Tuesday- sound like you really need a break!
