Well, since 2 of my 4 readers have inquired about my lack of blog posts lately, I thought I would try to get back into blogging. :o) Been in a bit of a blogging slump. Here's why.
Sometimes reading other's lives online makes me discontent with my situation. When I read others blogs and facebook posts I have to remind myself that people are only posting the good/up/happy moments. I do the same thing--only post the
good and avoid the
bad and
ugly. Why?? Because I only want to remember the happy times? To create a facade? I don't know.
Lest you all be deceived by the highlights, Tandon and I have a lot of
bad and
ugly in our lives! Just in the past
month week, I have yelled at my husband, lost my patience with my kids, left my bed unmade, dressed my daughter in her brother's underwear because she didn't have any clean underwear, cried about Mema's death-even though it has been months since she entered heaven, and wanted to crawl into a hole and pretend I didn't have two kids that needed me.
Which brings up the question of--why do I blog? The answer I've come up with: it's an easy way to give Grandmas access to pics of the kids, it is a virtual scrapbook (that I intend to print someday), and it is a journal of sorts.
So, I intend to keep blogging-mostly
good moments-because that is what I want to remember when I am an old lady. But sometimes I may be blatantly honest about our struggles, disappointments, and failures because I am trying my hardest not to wear a mask in 'real life' and certainly don't want to wear one in my 'online life.'
But before I do some catch up posts about the
good from the past month, I will leave you with the
bad and
ugly from last week. By the way, I'm impressed if you are still reading. ;-)
THE BAD
On Tuesday, Anna was playing outside by herself while I prepared dinner. Tandon went to check on her and discovered the gate open. We searched high and low, however, both 2.5 year old Anna and our dog were missing. After running all over the front and back yelling her name, we started asking neighbors if they had seen her. We eventually found her and Bullet on the street perpendicular to ours at least 10 houses down the hill. After piecing it all together, we believe Anna opened to gate (because she's ornery like that) and the dog ran out. She ran after him to try to put him back in the yard. Grateful for the angels that protected her from traffic and strangers!! Needless to say, the gate now has a lock on it.
THE VERY BAD
On Thursday, the kids and I went swimming with a friend. Anna was happily playing on the side of the pool with buckets while I put floaties on Kellen. About the time I finished getting K situated, my friend hollered "Anna!" I turned around and she had fallen in the pool and was completely still at the bottom of the pool. Being about 8 feet away from her, I sprinted across the pool toward her. Have you ever tried to run in water?? Doesn't work! I eventually gave up running and dove under-sunglasses and all-and swam to her. She was conscious! It took her a few seconds (which seemed like an eternity at the time) to start breathing again but once she took the first few breaths she quickly recovered. Oh my! Anna's guardian angel had to work overtime this week!! Talked to the on-call nurse and at her advice we spent that first night checking on Annie every 2 hours to make sure she was breathing okay because kids can die from something called dry drowning up to 24 hrs after they have fallen in the water. She is healthy and happy now. Tandon has asked that I wear Annie in the moby wrap for the next few weeks so that we know she is safe. LOL
FYI--Kids who drown do not make any noise!! It is completely silent. I didn't even hear the splash of her falling in the water. She didn't flail about, splash, or yell for help; she simply silently sank to the bottom. Please put your kids in life jackets, even if they are not in the water!! I know we will!
THE UGLY
On Saturday, the whole family went to Super Target to get a few odds and ends. My daughter often acts like a wild animal in stores. I wish I had money for every time I've said, "We are not in the backyard; we are in the store. Stop running and yelling!" Anyway, we were in the salsa isle checking out the new Pace Picante flavors. Seconds after I said, 'Kids get over here and quit wrestling in the store! You guys are going to knock the whole row of salsa on the floor." Tandon put a jar of the salsa verde in the front of our cart and it fell through the hole that is intended for a babies leg and shattered on the floor, my feet, and my new flip flops. Lovely! At least it wasn't the children, right?
THE VERY UGLY
Remember this sweet guy?
Bullet is the perfect dog at home--doesn't chew, doesn't pee on my floor, has just the right amount of energy for our lifestyle, likes to cuddle, and is possibly one of the cutest dogs I've ever owned.
However, we CANNOT take him out of our house or have people in our home with Bullet around. Since we got him 4 months ago, he has attacked 3 dogs and terrorized numerous neighborhood kids. We feel that he is a law suit waiting to happen because of his aggression toward other animals and strangers. Subsequently, we made the hardest decision EVER and are going to take him back to the Humane Society tomorrow. I have shed buckets of tears over this decision! Despite what my heart is telling me, my head knows this is the right decision. Ugh!! Why does life have to be so hard?! If you feel so inclined, please pray that some sweet older couple with no kids will quickly adopt Bullet. He deserves a good home, but we just can't keep him.
So, there you have it--the bad and ugly from this week.
Stay tuned for a few catch-up posts about the good from the month of August.
