Tow Truck

Tandon took a week off in July and we drove to T's parent's in Oklahoma, my grandmother's in Kansas, my brother & sister-in-law's and finally my parent's in Colorado.  The kids (and adults) were exhausted by the time we got home, so we probably won't try to cram everyone into one trip again.  But we are grateful that we were able to see everyone this summer.

Here is our trip in pictures:

Oklahoma

Rattle Snake
Our prissy girl was not happy about getting strawberry juice on her new gloves.

This sweet kitty endured a lot of 'cuddles' from both kids while we were there.  I'm sure the cat was glad to see us drive away. :)

The Break Down

Our gas pump went out while driving through eastern Colorado.  We sat on the side of the road for a few hours--in 100 degree weather--waiting for a tow truck.  Tandon clearly told the tow truck guy on the phone that we had two adults, two kids, and a dog.  Rick showed up with a single cab bench seat truck and quickly hooked on and told us to pile in. So, for the next 30+ minutes I sat in the middle next to Rick with Anna in my lap and Tandon sat next to me with Kellen in his lap and the dog at their feet.  Wish I had a picture of that!

We passed a cop on the way to the nearest town and Rick shouted, "Push the kid down! There's only supposed to be 4 in the truck, push the kid down!" Shocked, Tandon and I shoved Kellen's head down between Tandon's knees until we passed the cop.  It happened so quickly that poor Kellen had no idea what was going on--he was in near tears by the time we let him sit up again.

About the time Kellen had recovered from the first cop, we passed another and Rick began shouting and Tandon began shoving.  Poor Kellen was traumatized by the time we reached our destination and tumbled out of the tow truck.  Needless to say, everyone--but Kellen--has laughed over the tow truck experience numerous times since.  We now randomly shout, "Push the kid down!" But I'm pretty sure that Kellen will never get into another tow truck.

Sure am glad that I only had saliva in my mouth and not ice tea because I spit all over my computer as it was when I read the "shove the kid down" part!

We rode in a tow truck once with Sarah Ann and Travis (before they were married), Sara, Ernie, the tow truck driver, and me...all on a bench seat. We all had shorts on so our hot and sweaty legs were sticking together. Ernie had Sara on his lap. I had Sarah Ann on my lap. And Travis sat next to the driver with the gear shift between his legs. Glad it was dark and no one could see how many of us piled in that truck. We still laugh about it to this day!
