I guess I missed my calling, I should have been a doctor. I would be making a lot more money and probably get quite a bit more respect from my kids. :) Anyway, the pediatrician said that Kellen's rash looks like the classic reaction to the MMR vaccine (really makes you want to continue giving your kids vaccines, doesn't it?). However, since Kellen only got the chickenpox vaccine last week, the doctor's best guess is that this is a reaction to the antibiotics. The fever and cough, he thinks, are mild bronchitis so we should go ahead and finish out antibiotics #2. The rash may get bad again over the next 4-5 days and then eventually fad away. Today is much milder. Kellen's face looks like he has a sunburn and his splotches are not nearly as red and fiery.

Tandon is home today, so that in and of itself has helped to make today better than Wednesday. And since Kellen is not contagious we went to Fire House Subs for lunch and then to the park to feed the ducks. I was concerned about getting dirty looks at the restaurant but with long sleeves and jeans no one seemed to notice the rash. I'm pretty sure we would have gotten kicked out had we gone yesterday. :)
What I've learned through this whole process: Medicine is simply an educated guessing game.

I'm glad to hear that your on the road to getting him better. I know what you mean about the dirty looks. My son had an allergic reaction to laundry detergent a couple of weeks ago and we got all kinds of looks when we went into WalGreens to get his medicine. :)
See, this is why I alway ask you for advice when SJ seems just a little off. You're my resident doctor...and much cheaper and easier to get a hold of :)! Still, poor Kellen!
This looks miserable. At least it will be over soon.
